Tuesday's Treasure - Fashion Flourishes through Female Entrepreneurs!

What a great time to be a female in the Fashion industry. Through my association with the 85 Broads Network, I have met many very talented and savvy businesswomen who work in the fashion world for top designers, or who have recently set up their own ventures after working in other areas.

Our own Evie, who is a Spokesmodel for WWRG and an 85 Broads member, is actively involved in several projects including the Fashion for Development initiative she is now rolling out via South South News. We featured her shows in a recent Lifestyle Lifters post.

We have also featured a venture curated by Shauna Mei called Aha!Life. For those of you looking for something unique to give to someone or yourself, I recommend you visit their website and sign up. Many of their offerings are created by women or benefit women in disadvantaged countries.

Another recent addition to the firmament of fashion by an 85 Broads member (or members in this case!) is Moda Operandi. Here, Ashlaug Magnusdottir and Lauren Santo Domingo have created a "first-in-category, members-only online store that lets customers browse and pre-order designer collections immediately following their runway presentation. Launched during New York Fashion Week, M'O was created to allow its members to "shop the runway" from the privacy of their own homes.

Moda Operandi provides direct access to complete runway collections from the finest designer brands, including Nina Ricci, Giambattista Valli, Carolina Herrera, Calvin Klein, Alexander Wang, and Proenza Schouler, as well as jewelry, shoes, handbags, and accessories. Membership perks include recommendations from top stylists, personal shopping assistants, and tools to review looks from every angle."

So many great Women now hold C-level positions at fashion industry Icons like Burberry and Gilt Groupe, to name but a few. If you have a "passion for fashion", please consider joining a network like 85 Broads where you will find plenty of support and mentorship. This is the vision that Janet Hanson set forth when she co-founded the organization in 1997 which has grown to a membership of over 25,000 women and a few enlightened men (me included!)

Lifestyle Lifters - Fashion for Development

Where in the World are our WWRG Jetsetters these days?

Judging by the map of visitor's locations on the sidebar to the right side of this page - practically everywhere!

As I indicated in my post last November, we are moving swiftly toward our goal to become the leading resource for Women of Wealth and Influence by bringing you on-demand, real-time content on Social Media Technologies that are now the most rapidly growing base of users - Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIN.

Since our relaunch in January 2011, our own Face and Voice of WWRG - Evie - has been around the world of fashion, both literally and virtually.

We are excited that her "Fashion for Development" project in conjunction with South South News, is now in full swing and receiving rave reviews. South South News is a leading digital media platform for the countries of the South that is facilitating, connecting, and publishing news on various efforts in sustainable economic and social development to audiences and multiple constituencies not only in the South but also around the world.

In a series of interviews conducted during NY Fashion Week last month, Evie highlighted the new collections of some of the world's most famous and socially involved designers including IvanaHelsinki (Paola Suhonen), Norma Kamali, and Zang Toi.

In these interviews, you will hear IvanaHelsinki speak about her support of UNICEF Dolls, Norma Kamali talk about how she helped girls in an Orphanage in India by using their embroidery in her clothing line, and Zang Toi's thoughts on how fashion can help women in developing countries - his support of battered women in Madagascar via his charity work there is just one example.

Here are the interviews courtesy of South South News:

Monday's Motivational Makeover - The Total Package

A few months ago, my colleague and fellow 85 Broads member, Evie wrote a guest blog featuring another 85 Broads member and friend, Dr. Shirley Madhere.

Shirley, Evie, and I attended the UN Millennium Development Goals Awards event in NYC last evening. Among the presenters were former super model Christie Brinkley and Actor, Country Music singer, John Schneider.

The Grand Ballroom was packed with dignitaries, celebrities, and CEO's, many of them women. Gloria Gaynor sang her signature disco anthem " I will survive". During this, there were literally women dancing in the isles.

What struck me the most was the energy in the room. Also striking were the men and women who attended.

Ageless is not just a concept anymore - it is reality!

Both Christie and John did not look their biological ages. I credit this to a healthy lifestyle, exercise, and good nutrition.

I discussed this with Shirley, a noted Plastic Surgeon. She agrees, and in fact her practice is centered around a "holistic" approach to anti-aging.

Another thing that struck me. Men are beginning to take an interest in re-vitalizing their youth. Shirley said that she has a number of high-profile male clients who want to look younger to " compete with younger men (and women)" who are increasingly rising to the top of companies and organizations.

I encourage you to take time today to think through what a makeover - physical or attitudinal - would do for you.

Keep in mind, though, that working on one, without paying attention to the other, will limit your outcome and your appearance.

Shirley is working on a book on this very subject and as soon as it is available, you will all be the first to know!

In the meantime, I hope to get her to do an occasional guest blog so we can begin our Total package Makeover ASAP!

Lifestyle Lifter's - A Dream Holiday in Europe

I know many of you enjoy this segment of the WWRG blog, so while our guest blogger, Evie, continues her hiatus, I offer a suggestion for what a "fantasy holiday" in Europe might entail.

When I was growing up in Asia, my family frequently took advantage of the lengthy summer vacation period and traveled to Europe.

Two of our favorite destinations were Greece and Italy.

These two countries are once again top of my list as would France.

My fantasy holiday would begin in Greece. A trip to Greece is never complete without a visit to Mykonos. Mykonos is so beautiful, it is no accident that it has become one of the most desired destinations in the world. And if you add the cosmopolitan lifestyle, the sophisticated nightlife and the historic treasures of the nearby Delos to its stunning natural beauties and picturesque villages, you’ll have the recipe for an unforgettable holiday.

Although one of the smallest islands of the Cyclades complex, Mykonos is definitely the most famous, thanks to its treasure of natural beauty, rich history, cosmopolitan character combined with a wild nightlife, as well as plenty of local color.

My next destination would be Italy. I would hire a car and drive south to Tuscany where olive groves and some of the finest vineyards abound. As a serial "foodie", this journey would not be complete without dining on authentic Tuscan cuisine while enjoying a view of the rolling hills and beautiful villas.

I would then proceed directly to the glamorous French Riviera. A boat trip along the scenic coastline would include iconic towns such as Nice, Cannes, and St. Tropez and of course, Monaco. After enjoying the private beaches and world-class restaurants there I would complete my fantasy holiday in Paris. After several days at the Peninsula Paris (opening in 2012), I would regretfully return to the U.S., no doubt a few pounds heavier, but many burdens lighter!

BTW - did you know that Tokyo has now passed Paris as the Michelin Guides "city with the world's best restaurants"?

I have another fantasy holiday in Asia to tell you about in a future Lifestyle Lifter's post.

TGIF - In case you missed it...

..this past Wednesday was Chocolate Day. If you are a chocoholic like me, everyday is chocolate day!

And in keeping with my late mother's wishes, I try to eat at least one serving a day, because yes, according HolidayInsights.com, the cocoa plant is actually a vegetable!

My fav is from Teuscher Chocolates of Switzerland. I am lucky enough to be within a train ride of their store on Fifth Avenue in NYC. Although expensive, their signature line of Champagne Truffles are to die for.

This delectable delight combines two of the most powerful weapons in Cupid's Arsenal -chocolate and "the bubbly".

These are available via online order, so while it may be too late to enjoy them this weekend, there is always a backup plan - click here, make your selection from this list of "Tete de Cuvee" champagnes, then head to your nearest wine emporium. On your way there, pick up some dark chocolate from this list wherever you can find it, and a romantic novel.

Then spend an evening getting re-acquainted with the person you should treat the best - YOU!
Tune in tomorrow for Lifestyle Lifter's featuring Evie and her brand of Passion, Romance, Fashion!

TGIF - Today is "I Forgot Day"!

TGIF - Thank Goodness I Forgot.

And today is the day we celebrate our forgetfulness. According to HolidayInsights.com, Gaye Andersen of DeMotte, IN. created this day.

This is what they have to say about it:

I Forgot Day, by definition, is not a day to remember. So, just what are you forgetting? Can you even remember? Is it important? Hopefully, not.

Some days are days to remember and to cherish all of our lives. Others, like today, are ones to be forgotten. If you are having a bad day, it's just as well that today is I Forgot Day. We do hope that you are not getting married or having a baby today.

Some people view today as an opportunity to express their regrets for forgetting something, and to make amends. They do so by sending cards and flowers, apologizing for their memory lapse. The trouble is, if you forget something important tomorrow, you have to wait a whole year for the next I Forgot Day to arrive.

I Forgot Day is closely related to I'm Sorry Day.

FYI - July is also "Unlucky for Weddings Month", so if you so happen to forget to show up for your own wedding today, consider yourself lucky and treat yourself to a Hot Dog and an Ice Cream.

Oh yeah, July is also National Hot Dog and Ice Cream Month!

Have a delightful and safe July 4th weekend. Tune in tomorrow for more Lifestyle Lifter's featuring Evie

Lifestyle Lifters with Evie

Since I received quite a few inquiries from our audience regarding Dr. Shirley Madhere’s Summer Essentials from Head to Toe, I thought I should follow-up and share some additional expert suggestions from the Renew Spa in New York City , located at 109 East 73rd Street between Park and Lexington Avenue , 212 452-1012, www.therenewspa.com . If you do not live in New York , you can access Renew’s Web site for products and look for a spa in your area that may provide similar treatments.

Next week stay tuned for more PASSION ROMANCE FASHION …… Till then…. Enjoy life….. Evie

Facial skin: with warmer temps and higher humidity, switch your facial moisturizer from a cream to a lighter lotion or gel.

Thanks to modern facial skin care technology, the effects of aging on the skin caused by heredity, lifestyle, and environmental factors no longer have to be accepted as permanent. Today there are many facial rejuvenation options for individuals who would like to reduce wrinkles and fine lines, treat skin problems such as acne and rosacea, or enhance their facial skin care regimen to achieve a look that’s healthy and natural. We combine facial treatments with Renew Skin Care products which help to restore harmony and balance to your skin, allowing your natural beauty to shine through. Try Renew’s UltraSerum and Anti-Oxidant Gel.

Neck and chest: these parts are often forgotten in the daily skin routine. Extend application of facial moisturizer and sunscreen onto the neck and skin. Wrinkles in the décolletage may sometimes be managed with Botox or Dysport injections.

Now that summer is here we all want to show off our beautiful bodies. We sometimes forget the delicate part around the neck and décolletage. At Renew we have made-to-measure treatments that address these areas. Microdermabrasion serves to effectively treat sun-damages skin and age spots. Ultrasound is then applied to increase the blood flow stimulating the production of collagen for improved strength and resiliency.

Also, remember your back is exposed………Back facial involves microdermabrasion to help treat the appearance of sun damage, hyperpigmentation, age spots and to help reduce the signs of aging skin. Followed with a deep pore cleansing and steam to life impurities, followed by gentle extractions. Treatment is completed with a relaxing customized mask.

Torso: one of the best ways to complement a bikini-ready body is to have a toned abdomen ("belly") by eating well. Increase your metabolism in part by increasing your intake of whole plant-based foods as green, leafy vegetables (for fiber and protein) and vibrantly colored fruit (for vitamins and antioxidants).

Micro Current treatments can be used to target specific areas including face, neck, abdominals, arms, breast, buttocks, legs and thighs. Cellulite reduction and lymphatic detoxification are also benefits incorporated in every treatment. Any inch loss achieved in this treatment is the result of actually working and tightening the muscles. Whether you’re looking to kick-start a slimming plan or tackle those stubborn inches that hours in the gym just won’t shift, this is the treatment that will get you started on a firmer, tighter and more youthful body.

Thighs: if cellulite is an issue, recognize that it is the result of a number of factors as stress, excess fat, variegated fat distribution (even in absence of excess fat!), reduced skin elasticity, decreased lymphatic circulation, and others. To manage cellulite in time to be "summer body ready," it is helpful to begin treatments at least 6-8 weeks in advance. In general, there are a number of therapies that may be undertaken together as a part of a complete protocol to help produce a better result, as liposuction, mesotherapy, skin tightening laser, manual lymphatic drainage, topical creams, nutritional adjustments, and stress management techniques.

Cellulite is a major cosmetic concern for most women. Significant reductions in cellulite and dimpling can be seen in as few as six treatments with the TriActive LaserDermology system. This non-invasive cosmetic treatment can greatly improve the appearance of afflicted skin. Plus, with regular maintenance treatments your skin will continue to look firmer, smoother and healthier than it has in years!

Dr Vodder Manual Lymph Drainage techniques involve application of a very light touch applied to the skin’s surface over the areas with lymph nodes on the body and face. This treatment relaxes the body, mind and spirit! Also acts as a non-surgical facelift because it helps to relax the facial muscles, smoothes wrinkles and crow’s feet.

Body skin: touchably soft skin is appealing in any season. Skin is your best "accessory," even as it is vitally important organ! Exfoliate skin of the body in the shower with a loofah at least once weekly and follow up with a moisturizer (daily) containing rich emollients (for added smoothness) or alpha hydroxy acids sloughing non-viable skin cells).

Used to improve circulation, exfoliate the skin and assist the process of fat and cellulite absorption, Dry Brushing is an easy addition to your body treatment. Using a natural bristle brush for gentle massage, treatment is completed with an Organic Peppermint and Lemon lotion to refresh and soften body and tired feet.

Feet: formaldehyde in nail lacquers may discolor nails. Allow your nails to "breathe" from time to time by getting a "bare pedicure", no polish. Also, wearing flip flops potentially exposes feet to more elements-- environmental and non! Prevent cracked heels, which may pose a risk for infection, by keeping feet clean, and moisturized.

Keep your feet cool, hydrated and soft this summer. Have Renew’s cooling peppermint foot therapy.

Summer Essentials from Head to Toe

by Shirley Madhère, M.D.

These tips will help you to glow naturally!

Hair
: in summer, the sun may weaken hair by damaging its protein bonds. Use hair-specific sunscreen or, for product-free protection, use scarves, headbands, or head wraps. Also, a healthy scalp leads to healthy hair. Rinse hair as soon as possible after swimming and apply a deep conditioning treatment once or twice weekly, preferably one that helps hair to retain moisture and prevent dryness.

Facial skin
: with warmer temps and higher humidity, switch your facial moisturizer from a cream to a lighter lotion or gel.

Neck and chest
: these parts are often are forgotten in the daily skin routine. Extend application of facial moisturizer and sunscreen onto the neck and skin. Wrinkles in the decolletage may sometimes be managed with Botox or Dysport injections.

Hands
: colds and flus can be year-round. Reduce chances of these nuisances by using good hand hygiene and washing hands as often as needed. After hand washing, apply a moisturizer with sunscreen. This keeps hands soft and less prone to aging "sun spots." "Veiny" hands or hands with deep wrinkles may be improved in appearance by using injectable fillers to plump up the volume.

Thighs

In general, there are a number of therapies that may be undertaken together as a part of a complete protocol to help produce a better result, as liposuction, mesotherapy, skin tightening laser, manual lymphatic drainage, topical creams, nutritional adjustments, and stress management techniques. Ask your plastic surgeon for which you are the best candidate.

Body skin
: touchably soft skin is appealing in any season. Skin is your best "accessory," even as it is vitally important organ! Exfoliate skin of the body in the shower with a loofah at least once weekly and follow up with a moisturizer (daily) containing rich emollients (for added smoothness) or alpha hydroxy acids (for sloughing non-viable skin cells).

Lifestyle Lifters - Evie on Absolute Passion

Life is a journey filled with a variety of emotions. My wish for all of you , is that in your lifetime you experience

ABSOLUTE PASSION “ . Today I bring you Absolute Passion by EvieVision . For more stories and videos on Passion Romance Fashion visit the “ theater “ and the “garden” at www.evievision.com . Till next week …… Enjoy Life , Evie.

What is absolute passion?

Absolute passion is inevitable meetings in lucid dreams, flying high through boundless skies, waltzing barefoot on the linoleum, licking each other is wounds, making love in the afternoon. Every morning awakening through sleep is bleary eyes, passions growing stronger every time; a shining smile alighting the senses, cosmic mirror of translucent eyes revealing fantasies lived last night. Peace and joy at each other is hands. Absolute passion exists in a realm beyond space and time, before you are even aware of its existence it is aware of you.

Absolute passion is an axiom; it simply is.

Otherworldly, intangible, indescribable, inscrutable, je ne sais quoi; the most intricately twisted pattern of subtleties, nuances and minute obscurities, knitted into a gorgeously delectable and completely unknowable entity. Ephemeral beyond rational perception, indivisible; do not try to deconstruct it, just be with it. Let it resonate through your soul like a thousand singing ohms, a vibrating tickle within your neurons.

Absolute passion is a work in progress, an emotional story between a woman and her lover forever unfolding; fluid, morphing, forming and re-forming, converging and merging into one, a journey that is its own reward.

Absolute passion is timeless, formless, senseless, filling the void, bringing stability to wandering souls, rooting and giving faith in the omnipotence of immortal love.

Aaah, love etc without love absolute passion doesn't exist, it cannot subsist, it sputters and fades. With love, absolute passion is eternal; a most ravishing gift from the beyond, the purest spark of fire, internal oceanic rush, release of electron storm.

Never confuse passion with sex. Absolute passion is the ultimate quest. It takes great strength to surrender to vulnerability. Never confuse vulnerability with weakness, it is your greatest asset.

Absolute passion transforms kissing into poetry, hanging on lips like harmonious mantras, on the neck like insatiable goose bumps, on the chest like effortless meditation, on the thighs like honeydew, delicious, extraordinary, precious. Even after long years together the belly still flips in an endless game of wily sensuality, enticement and acquiescence.

Absolute passion is the rarest of faunas, the infinity line where the sea becomes the horizon, mystical threads tying relationships together. You need only have faith in the intangible and reach out for it. Absolute passion is the interplay, mergence of opposites, both pacifying and electrifying, ying-yanging forces in a mysterious impulsive cobweb, mutable, malleable, elemental.

It is salty and sweet rolled into one, light and dark, adventure and rest; a symphony of inexhaustible energies bouncing off each other, the rhythmic dance that guides.

Absolute passion is the apex of emotion, beyond desire and lust, the invisible tie that binds.

Embrace your absolute passion and do not fear it, release it into the universe. Share your warmth, your wants and desires, your emotional scars, your soft side. Lavish your lover with little secrets, reveal your sweet spots and hidden tickle lines, divulge the ceaseless valleys of your mind. Accept the beautiful challenge to discover your lover for the rest of your lives and continue to write your ecstatic story together. Make every kiss like the first time.

Do you dare?

Lifestyle Lifter's - Evie's Fashion Spotlight - Designer Juliette Longuet

JBHIV: As promised, more Evie!

I fell in love with her feminine designs, luxurious fabrics, delightful personality and her Paris – New York Show which shares her secret tips of the two cities …… her name is Juliette Longuet and she has that “ JE NE SAIS QUOI “ I mentioned in last week’s “ Reveal Yourself “ . Stay tuned for more PASSION ROMANCE FASHION next week , till then….. Enjoy Life and Reveal the “Je ne sais quoi” within you for all to see !!!!!! Evie

Fashion Designer, Juliette Longuet, left Paris in 2003 to live in New York where she attended the esteemed Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. After graduating she immediately went into designing a collection that caught the eye of retailers that landed her concept dresses and skirts in more than 150 stores nationwide, including the coveted Saks Fifth Avenue.

Longuet’s newfound popularity led to an opportunity to launch her first collection under her own name in 2003.

Critics responded enthusiastically to the coolly elegant femininity in Juliette Longuet designs. Her commitment to highlighting a woman's best assets seemed to come naturally. The concept of dressing really well in fanciful chiffons, glamorous sequins, and sophisticated tweeds embody Longuet’s passion, vivacity, and enchanting personality.

Longuet made her American dream, a French reality when she found her designs in top rated magazines and newspapers like The New York Times, WWD, Daily Candy and many others. The industry, as well as her loyal customers, agreed that her designs are the perfect combination of classic French glamour mixed in with the sophisticated lifestyle of a chic New Yorker.

The Juliette Longuet brand is distributed in a select number of exclusive retail stores in the US, abroad and available on-line for e-commerce.

TGIF - Short Week. Time to catch up on reading!

For many of us here in the US, the Holiday this past Monday brought with it a bonus- a shortened work week!

Realistically, though, most of us are "on-the-clock" 25/7/365 thanks to some remarkable technology. That leaves us very little time for reading- magazines, books, newspapers (what's that?).

Now honestly, how many of us are in the position of sifting through piles of old magazines. And those of us with International and Globe trotting lifestyles just never seem to be in the same place as our hard-copy, at the same time!

As I mentioned around this time last year, my friends at Zinio, are transforming the way the aforementioned media are published (all digital, eco-friendly) and distributed. Jeanniey Mullen, CMO of Zinio is an avid blogger and tweets at @empg. If you would like to have more information on the Zinio reader for iPhone or iPad, I suggest you contact her. In addition to being a whiz at marketing, she is one of the nicest people I know!

Since the debut of the iPad (now internationally available), I have seen less briefcases, laptop cases, and books/magazines in airports, offices, hotels, etc. Everything you need is right at your fingertips.

I have seen a concept for an exclusive e-lifestyle portal for use by clients at a Private Wealth Bank. Every client (the majority are female) will get an iPad, complete with an e-concierge interface called e-VIE, after it's creator and muse, Evie Evangelou, a frequent guest blogger in our "lifestyle lifter's" post.

I hope they take my suggestion and make a subscription to Vivmag- an exclusive all-digital magazine just for women- part of the package!.

Until then, remember to believe, achieve, receive. SDG, JBHIV

Branding Tips for WoW

In Tuesday's post I mentioned that so much of who we are and how we are perceived comes from the importance we place on leveraging our personal brand value.

After all, isn't life often reduced to a few paragraphs in an obituary or maybe an article if we are worthy enough to have one written posthumously!

How will your story be told? Who will read your social biography and come away with a true sense of who you were and why you mattered?

The often overused term "first impressions matter" is actually fairly accurate. Some statistics I have read claim that first impressions are made in the first 20 seconds, and a bad first impression takes 20 additional contacts to rectify that bad first impression.

Maybe that is why many cultures place such an emphasis on the use of customs such as gifting and the sharing of business cards.

What does your first impression say about you? One of my dearest friends and esteemed colleagues (and a terrific guest blogger!), Evie, presents a business card that was designed and printed by the prestigious Alpine Creative Group. Her logo is pictured above, and her card is printed on fine card stock, and nestled in a small envelope - very impressive.

Evie is an international spokes-model and cultural exchange diplomat and no doubt these cards come in handy when meeting dignitaries, celebrities, and Heads of State.

Maybe that is why Sean "p-diddy" Combs and LeBron James are listed as clients on the Alpine website along with numerous corporations, and the US Government.

Next week we will cover gifting and how wrapping a certain way can go a long way to a great first impression.

Until then, remember to Believe, Achieve, Receive. SDG, JBHIV
